Hi, I'm Kim Strong

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is dedicated to helping you find emotional balance and take control your life.

 

In my ten years of clinical work, I have come to recognize that people learn and process in various ways. You and I will work as a team to create an individualized treatment plan that works for you. Therapy can be a challenging process that is worth every ounce of vulnerability and courage you put into it.  

 

My goal is to help you translate your change and growth from the therapy room out into the rest of your life.

 

What does it feel like to be in therapy with me?

 

You can expect compassionate authenticity from me in our sessions. By that I mean that I am goal-directed and straight forward in my clinical observations and interventions, but with a tremendous amount of sensitivity to your needs in that moment and beyond. 

 

I welcome and will often elicit feedback from you about how our sessions are going and what kind of progress or setbacks you/we are experiencing. We will work together to make adjustments so that you can get the most out of our work together, and your best interest will always be my priority.

 

Individual therapy with me is exactly that--individual--meaning that it is an experience that is tailored to you and directed by you.

 

My role, is to be an expert guide in helping direct you towards achieving the goals you set for yourself. And as you evolve in your process of meeting or changing those goals, I will evolve with you. Sometimes therapy involves discovering new goals or challenges along the way that you didn’t know you had when you first began. My job is to be ready for that.

 

The therapeutic process of change and healing is not always easy but I believe it is always achievable! I will believe in you and have faith in the process for you, when you cannot always feel that way yourself. I am looking through an objective lens and my only goal is that you feel you have benefited from the work we do together.

 

Clinical Training and Practice

 

I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from The University of Arizona in 2004 and my master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2007. During my studies, I traveled to several different countries around the world where I worked intimately with people of various cultural values and perspectives in their pursuit of health and happiness.

 

These experiences have driven me to grow clinically as a social worker in an effort to help others achieve the highest quality of mental health and find balance in their lives. 

 

As a clinical social worker, I have had the unique experience of working with a variety of populations from ages 13 to 104.  I have worked in outpatient counseling centers, inpatient psychiatric units, in-home and inpatient hospice care and residential treatment facilities. This diverse involvement allows me to effectively treat a wide range of clients experiencing complex emotional and environmental circumstances.

 

I have experience working with a broad spectrum of diverse clients with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, and ability.

 

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences, LCSW 29475

 

Philosophy

 

I believe that humans are so unique, it would be unfair to ever assume a one-size-fits-all approach to helping them, especially in mental health. I work in a way that is respectful of you and your needs.

 

I practice Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a psychological treatment that has scientifically demonstrated efficacy for the issues I treat: depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief. Its theories are also used in helping couples improve their communication and address unpredictable and overwhelming obstacles that arise in a relationship. CBT is a well established, highly effective, and lasting treatment. 

 

CBT is founded on the principle that the way we think, feel, and behave are all interconnected. In therapy with me, you will challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors in order to improve your mood and overall functioning. The more aware you become of these unhelpful patterns, the more control you will have in changing and improving your life.
