Hi, I'm Kathryn Richards

A Licensed Clinical Social Worker and certified yoga teacher who is committed to helping you find balance and a greater sense of well-being.

My goal is to help you alleviate your symptoms of anxiety and depression and stay connected to what matters.

I use a holistic approach to help you create meaningful change so that you can build a fulfilling and productive life for yourself.

What does it feel like to be in therapy with me?

I am proactive, empathic, conversational, and practical. I work with professionals and new parents, and have nearly twenty years of experience in both individual therapy and couples therapy.

In our work together, you will learn to curb cyclical, negative thinking and instead focus on building healthy relationships with yourself and others. Breaking life-long habits can take time, and that's what I am here for. I will help you recognize both helpful and unhelpful patterns, and help you build skills and tools that you can put into practice right away. My role in our work is to help you overcome your fears and feelings of overwhelm, and help you strengthen your self esteem and experience of joy.

I know that it can be hard to identify your strengths when you are struggling, so it will be my job to help you objectively evaluate the ways you can build on already strong skills, and empower you to feel more in control of your choices.

Some questions I like to ask you to get us started in therapy are:

What do you want to change?

What has gotten in your way before of making the changes you want to see in your life?

And how will you and I know that you have made that change?

I find the clients who tend to have the best results working with me are those who are ready for change. Whether you are coming to therapy for support with parenthood, or to tackle symptoms of anxiety or depression, we will work together to find tools that serve you best--whether they are body-based, thought-based, or emotion-based.

Clinical Training and Practice

I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Washington and my master’s in Social Work from Smith College. Over the last 18 years, I have worked with individuals, parents/couples and groups in an array of counseling and community mental health settings.

I have experience working with a spectrum of diverse clients with respect to gender, race/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexual orientation, and ability.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker by the CA Board of Behavioral Sciences LCSW 24012.

Yoga Training and Practice

As both a licensed clinical social worker and a certified yoga teacher, I have found profound healing possible when fusing traditional behavioral psychotherapy and body- therapy modalities. I can work with one modality or the other, exclusively, or weave the two together. My default approach is behavioral psychotherapy. From there, I offer opportunities to explore body-awareness and mindfulness exercises. I will always let you know what I am doing, and why, and make sure we are doing the work in therapy that you want to be doing. But if you are curious to learn more, please ask!

I have taught yoga in yoga studios, gyms and private homes. I received my 200-hour certification through Laughing Lotus in San Francisco and continue to seek out professional development trainings that further bridge these philosophies.

I believe that you have what it takes. You deserve to feel connected to yourself and others, and to live a life that feels balanced and joyful. My blend of expertise gives me a unique understanding of the intimate connection between mind and body. I hope to empower my clients with skills and mindful techniques necessary for managing anxiety, depression, and the challenges that accompany significant life transitions.
